The Paperboy Noticed Something Was Wrong Every morning for two years, Theo threw one paper onto Mrs. Adler's porch. And she always waved. She'd leave him cookies on the step. He'd leave a drawing in the paper. They barely ever talked. Then one Tuesday, she didn't wave. Wednesday, two papers on the porch. The curtains still closed. On Thursday there were three. The other kids said, she's probably on vacation. But Theo knew. She never missed a wave. He knocked. Nothing. He ran to the nearest house and called for help. They found her on the kitchen floor. She had fallen two days before. The doctor said one more day, and she wouldn't have made it. Weeks later, a thin hand waved from the porch again. She'd saved every drawing he ever left. All of them.
