Her Violin Broke Before the Audition

Her Violin Broke Before the Audition Only one girl would win the scholarship. Ana and Grace had been rivals for six years. Ten minutes before Ana's audition, her violin slipped. The neck snapped. It was her grandmother's violin. And her only one. Everyone looked at Grace. Without Ana, she would win. Grace opened her case and held out her own violin. Take it. Why? Ana whispered. Grace smiled. Because I want to beat you when you're at your best. Ana walked on stage and played the best she ever had. Then Grace played on the same violin. Still warm. The judges talked for a long time. Then they did something they had never done before. Two scholarships. One for each girl. Because of what happened backstage. Years later, they still play together. In the same orchestra. Side by side. Real winners lift others up. Comment RIVALS.
