Nobody Wanted the Old Dog at the Shelter Every Saturday, families came to the shelter. And every Saturday, they walked past him. Biscuit was thirteen years old. Nobody adopts a thirteen-year-old dog. He had been there for two years. He had stopped getting up when people came. Across town, Walter hadn't spoken to anyone since his wife died. Not one word in months. His daughter dragged him to the shelter. Just look, Dad. Walter stopped at the last kennel. And for the first time in two years, Biscuit stood up. That one's old, Jo warned. He doesn't have long. Walter said, neither do I. They walked very slowly together. Every morning. Around the same block. The neighbours started saying hello. Walter started saying hello back. Biscuit lived two more years. Two happy ones, the vet said, surprised. When he was gone, Walter went back to the shelter. He asked for the oldest dog they had. Old souls need love too. Comment BISCUIT.
