They Laughed at the Old Man in the Bookshop They laughed when the old man in the wet coat asked to sit down. This isn't a shelter, sir. Buy something or leave. He looked at the tall stack of the year's biggest bestseller. The one with the lighthouse on the cover. He counted the coins in his hand. Not enough. But Nora, the new girl, pulled out a chair by the window and brought him tea. Sit as long as you like. Rain doesn't care who you are. He wrote in his notebook for an hour, thanked her, and left without a word. The next morning, a huge crowd lined up outside. The famous author was coming to sign books. The door opened. White hair. Taped glasses. The same wet coat. He walked past the managers, straight to Nora, and handed her the first signed copy. Inside, it said: For the girl who gave a stranger a chair. My next book is about you. Would you have given him the chair? Comment YES.
