Dad Said He Didn't Like Ice Cream Every Friday, my dad bought me one ice cream. And every Friday, he said the same thing. No thanks, I don't like ice cream. I believed him. For years, I thought my dad was the only person in the world who didn't like ice cream. He worked double shifts at the garage. His watch was cracked. His shoes had holes. Twenty-four years later, I came home to help him clear out the old garage. In a dusty box, I found an old photo. Dad, at sixteen, holding the biggest ice cream cone I had ever seen. Under it, in his handwriting: best job in the world. Ice cream man, summer of eighty-nine. He didn't hate ice cream. He loved it. He just could only afford one. That Friday, I took him back to the same little cart by the sea. Two ice creams, please. And this time, he didn't say no. What did your parents quietly give up for you? Comment ONE WORD.
