The 7-Year-Old Who Became a Police Officer In 1980, a seven-year-old boy in Phoenix had one dream. To be a police officer. His name was Chris Greicius. And he had leukemia. The doctors said there wasn't much time. A family friend called the Arizona police. Could they do something? They sent a police helicopter. Chris flew over the city to police headquarters, where officers were waiting. They made him the state's first honorary highway patrolman. With his own badge. Officers had a tiny uniform made, just his size. He passed his motorcycle test on a little battery-powered bike. And earned his wings. A few days later, Chris passed away. He was buried with full police honors. But the officers couldn't forget him. If we could do it for Chris, they said, we can do it for others. That year they started the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It has since granted hundreds of thousands of wishes. One little wish started it all. Comment WISH.
