The Tiny Dog Who Did a Job No Soldier Could This tiny dog weighed two kilograms. And she did a job that saved hundreds of soldiers. This really happened. In 1944, an American soldier found her in the jungle, in a hole. Her name was Smoky. Bill Wynne taught her tricks, and she went everywhere with him. Then the army had a problem. They needed a wire run through a pipe under the airfield. Twenty centimeters wide. Seventy meters long. Digging it up would take days, with men out in the open and planes in danger. So Wynne tied the wire to Smoky's collar. And called her from the other end. The pipe was dark and full of dirt. She got stuck. She kept going. After a few minutes, she came out the other side. With the wire. The job was done in minutes, not days. About two hundred and fifty men and forty planes stayed safe. Now you know. This tiny dog weighed two kilograms. And she did a job that saved hundreds of soldiers.
