She Rowed Into the Storm A ship crashed on the rocks in a storm. And a twenty two year old girl rowed out to save them. This really happened. England, 1838. Grace Darling lived in a lighthouse on a tiny island with her father. One night a terrible storm hit. At dawn, Grace saw a steamship broken on the rocks, and people clinging on. The waves were too big for the lifeboat from the town. No one was coming. So Grace and her father took their small rowing boat, and went themselves. They rowed more than a mile through the storm, with just two oars each. They reached the rocks and found nine survivors, freezing and soaked. In two trips, every one of them was brought back to the lighthouse. Grace became famous across the country. But she always said she only did what anyone would do. That's Grace Darling. She rowed into a storm, for strangers. Comment GRACE.
