He Kept His Secret for 50 Years For fifty years he told no one what he had done. Then one night, on live TV, he found out who was sitting next to him. This really happened. In 1938, a young London stockbroker named Nicholas Winton went to Prague, instead of a ski trip. He saw Jewish families with nowhere to go. War was coming, and their children were in danger. So he made a plan. He found British families willing to take a child, and raised money for every train ticket. Eight trains left Prague. Six hundred and sixty nine children got out, just before the war began. Then he simply went home, and never talked about it. Not even his wife knew. In 1988 his wife found an old scrapbook in the attic, full of names and photos. A TV show invited him into the audience. The host asked: is anyone here one of the children Nicholas saved? And the whole audience around him stood up. That's Nicholas Winton. He saved 669 children, and kept it secret for fifty years. Comment 669.
