The Dog Who Waited 10 Years at the Station Every day, this dog waited at the same train station. For almost ten years. This really happened, in Tokyo, Japan. His name was Hachiko. Every evening, Hachiko waited at Shibuya Station for his owner, Professor Ueno, to come home from work. They walked home together. Every single day. Then, one day in 1925, the professor didn't come back. He had died suddenly at work. But nobody could explain that to Hachiko. So the next evening, he went back to the station. And waited. Rain, snow, summer heat. Year after year, he came back at the same time. People noticed. Strangers brought him food. Newspapers wrote about him. The whole country fell in love with him. Hachiko waited for nine years and nine months, until his very last day in 1935. Today, a bronze statue of him still waits outside Shibuya Station. Every day, this dog waited at the same train station.
