Pip the Penguin Who Was Scared of Water Every penguin in Snowy Bay loves the water. Every penguin... except one. This is Pip. Pip loves snowballs, fish sticks, and sliding on his tummy. But water? No, thank you. PIP: It's cold, it's wet, and it's full of... wiggly things! Every morning, the whole colony dives into the sea. Splash! Splash! Splash! And every morning, Pip stays on the ice. He tried everything to avoid swimming. A fake cough. PIP: Cough, cough! Oh no, I'm way too sick to swim today! He even built a tiny boat out of ice. It sank in three seconds. That night, Pip sat alone, watching the others play in the waves. GUS: Can't sleep, little one? You know, when I was your age, I was scared of the water too. PIP: You? But you're the biggest swimmer in the whole bay! GUS: Being brave doesn't mean you're not scared. It means you're scared, and you try anyway. The next morning, a huge storm rolled into Snowy Bay. Crack! The ice split in two. And on the broken piece was Pip's little sister, Penny, drifting out to sea! PIP: Penny! Hold on! The grown-ups were far away, fishing. Only Pip was close enough. He looked at the dark, cold water. His flippers were shaking. He remembered Grandpa Gus's words. Scared... and try anyway. Pip closed his eyes... and jumped! And then something amazing happened. Under the water, Pip wasn't clumsy at all. He zoomed! He twirled! He was flying! Pip zipped to the ice and pushed Penny all the way back to shore. Penny hugged him tight. And the whole colony cheered. Pip! Pip! Pip! GUS: See? I knew you had it in you. From that day on, Pip was the first one in the water every morning. Well... almost every morning. Remember, being brave means being scared, and trying anyway. Can you be brave like Pip? Subscribe for more adventures!
